Elmont Woman Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter for Fatal Elmont Crash

Updated transparent seal

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that an Elmont woman pled guilty today to manslaughter and other charges for a fatal crash in Elmont that killed a 65-year old man in February 2019.

Julie Debrosse, 31, pled guilty before Judge Fran Ricigliano to Manslaughter in the Second Degree (a C felony), Assault in the Second Degree (a D violent felony) and Driving While Intoxicated (an unclassified misdemeanor). The defendant is due back in court on May 5 and is expected to be sentenced to three and one-third years to 10 years on the Manslaughter charge and seven years determinate on the Assault charge.

“This defendant drove drunk at nearly 90 miles an hour in a 30 mile per hour zone when she crashed into Michael Saudo’s car, killing him,” DA Singas said. “This crash was not an accident, it was a preventable criminal act, and we extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Saudo’s family.”

DA Singas said that on February 17, 2019, at approximately 3:10 am, the defendant was driving north on Meacham Avenue in Elmont, when her vehicle, a 2017 Honda Civic struck a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier in the driver’s side door as it was turning south onto Meacham Avenue off B Street.

After Nassau County Police Department Officers responded to the scene, the driver of the Cavalier, 65-year-old Michael Saudo, was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the crash.

Further investigation revealed the defendant was driving 88 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. The defendant was driving home from a party in Queens to Elmont at the time of the crash and had a blood alcohol concentration of .14 approximately 90 minutes after the crash.

Saudo was driving home from work at the time of the crash and is survived by his adult children.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa Corso and Senior Assistant District Attorney Christopher Casa of DA Singas’ Vehicular Crimes Bureau are prosecuting this case. Nancy Garber, Esq. represents the defendant.
