MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Dix Hills man was arraigned on a grand jury indictment today for allegedly stabbing his elderly uncle to death in Levittown.
David Cahoon, 40, was arraigned before Judge Fran Ricigliano and charged with Murder in the Second Degree (an A-I felony), Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree (a D felony) and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree (an E felony). The defendant was remanded and is due back in court August 27. If convicted of the top count, he faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.
“The victim had a routine of visiting the same restaurant every weekend and his friends there became concerned when he did not show up for several weeks,” DA Singas said. “According to the indictment, Mr. Cahoon’s nephew brutally stabbed his 70-year old uncle to death and stole $1,800 by fraudulently cashing a check. Thanks to excellent police work the defendant has been apprehended and will now face justice.”
DA Singas said that on January 4, 2019, the body of 70-year-old William Cahoon was found by members of the Nassau County Police Department in a back bedroom of his home in Levittown with approximately 18 stab wounds to his head, neck and chest.
The officers responded to the home following a request for a wellness check by staff at the Milleridge Inn on the victim. Mr. Cahoon was a regular at the establishment and had dinner there every Friday and Saturday for 25 years. Restaurant staff became concerned about his wellbeing after he didn’t show up for approximately four weeks.
Following an investigation, it was determined the victim was killed on December 3, 2018, allegedly by his nephew, David Cahoon. He was arrested by NCPD Detectives on June 19, 2019.
The investigation also revealed the defendant allegedly stole $1,800 from the victim by fraudulently cashing a check from the victim’s bank account.

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
